I have used my MFT style bench for a number of years now and find it very useful, except for removing the guide rail. The original pins that fit in the dog holes jam easily and are very frustrating.
Thankfully Ralph has sorted this with his MK2 pin system. The pins attached to the guide rail slide easily in and out of sockets inserted into a MFT hole and have a o ring to secure it. If you are reusing the hole from the previous system it may be badly worn and the o ring may not secure the new socket.
The new pins have a series of indents to allow a collar to be fitted to the pin at a specific hight which corresponds to the work piece being worked on. This feature is not needed at the fence end of the rail as the rail sits directly on the workpiece. At the other end of the rail this feature keeps the rail level. I found that it was difficult to get the grub screw in the collar to find the indent as the screw doesn’t have a pointed end. Personally I usually just put an off cut of material under the rail at this position.
I must congratulate Ralph on sorting out a problem experienced by lots of MFT users.
Very well thought out table. Wife bought it as a gift. She gets all the points! Yes it's heavy, that's a big part of why it's good. Makes it very sturdy with zero wobble. Get wheels if you think you'll have trouble moving it about or need to transfer a long distance. Mine mostly stays in my workshop which is small enough need to be flexible space wise. This is ideal as it hangs flat on the wall when needed. I'll be adding another one along with the RH fence extension. An outrigger with a top that the router plate can mount in would be great. I might just make one :)
